Cherry Canyon Ranch
The
Cherry Canyon Ranch tucked under the east face of El Capitan Mountain in
southeastern New Mexico is a nicely blocked ranch unit with yearlong livestock
grazing and wildlife habitat. The ranch is comprised of 5,400 ± deeded acres and
4,629 federal BLM lease acres. The ranch is modestly improved with adequate livestock working facilities. Access is good by paved state and county maintained roadways. Electric and telephone service is to the headquarters. Headquarters improvements consist of two site built residences, one mobile home and a large storage barn.
Livestock and domestic water is provided by three operational wells all equipped with electric submersible pumps with electricity at each of the well sites. Well depths range from approximately 200 feet to 400 feet with pumping capacity represented by ownership from 3 to 7 gallons per minute.
The wells provided water to approximately 13 miles of water pipeline system that distributes water throughout the ranch for livestock and wildlife use. The system is comprised of 1¼ inch black plastic transmission lines to storage tanks and livestock drinkers.
The ranch is boundary and partition fenced with seven larger interior pastures and three smaller pastures and traps. Each of the larger pastures has at least two permanent sources of water directly from the well source or from the pipeline system.
The primary livestock working facilities are located at the headquarters designed to process and ship livestock.
The terrain of the ranch is described as diversified with a limestone profile with hills and canyons that provide excellent year around grazing for both livestock and wildlife. The draws and canyons provide overflow areas during the periods of heavy rainfall that enhance grazing opportunities along with natural water holes.
The primary drainage for the ranch is Cherry Canyon that traverses the ranch’s northern area running from west to east. There are numerous other small draws and headers scattered throughout the ranch.
Wildlife is abundant on the ranch to include a significant resident herd of mule deer and Barbary sheep. The land status of the ranch is situated to be able to control vehicle access to most of the ranch.
Brokers Comments: The Cherry Canyon Ranch is a nicely blocked scenic ranch unit with a substantial percentage of deeded land. The terrain and pasture design allow for a diversified operation to include livestock grazing and recreational wildlife activities. The ranch is secluded at the end of a county maintained roadway.
