The grazing capacity is owner controlled with fluctuating numbers depending on moisture and pasture conditions. The current operation is cow/calf with seasonal breeding for spring calves to be shipped in the fall. Typical sale weights average between 625 pounds to as high as 700 pounds under optimal conditions. This ranch would also lend itself to be an excellent stocker operation with its current pasture design and cattle working facilities.

The ranch is configured in three noncontiguous tracts divided by New Mexico State Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 285. The largest portion of the ranch, comprised of approximately 20,000 acres, is located between the two highways with the headquarters complex situated within this tract accessed by either highway. This portion of the ranch is partitioned into several large pastures along with smaller weaning and holding traps in the vicinity of the headquarters. The primary set of working pens is at the headquarters, complete with sorting pens, sorting alley, hydraulic squeeze chute, livestock scales and loading chute. There are several additional smaller sets of pens within this portion of the ranch.

A portion of the ranch is located west of U.S. Highway 285, comprised of approximately 10,000 acres. The west side is partitioned into three larger pastures and one smaller holding trap in the vicinity of West Camp, which is situated in the approximately center of the west side acreage. Located at West Camp is a set of working pens complete with sorting pens, sorting alleys, loading chute, squeeze chute, and livestock scales.

Livestock and domestic water is provided by six subsurface wells and numerous earthen tanks. The wells are equipped with electric submersible pumps, solar pumps and windmills. The well depths vary from approximately 100 feet to 900 feet. Water quality is sufficient for cattle consumption. In addition to the wells, there is an extensive water pipeline delivery system that distributes water throughout the ranch to all pastures and traps. The ranch is considered to be very well watered with distribution to all areas of ranch for good utilization.

The terrain of the ranch varies from nearly level to gently rolling and undulating grassland. The most significant landmark is Poquita Mesa, which is located west of the headquarters and east of U.S. Highway 285. The mesa is separated into two small table-top type mesas that rise in elevation approximately 300 feet.

Scattered over the ranch are numerous intermittent draws that provide overflow areas during periods of rainfall runoff. In many of the draws, man-made earthen tanks have been constructed to store the runoff for livestock and wildlife consumption. The two primary draws within the ranch are Wylie Draw that runs adjacent to the headquarters and Threadgill Canyon that runs through the western portion of the ranch.
